The name of Portland, Oregon was decided on a coin flip: there was a 50% chance the city would today be called Boston, Oregon.
Mt. Tabor, located in east Portland, is the only volcano in the U.S. situated within a city's limits.
Portland is known as the City of Roses; the International Rose Test Garden in Washington Park features more than 500 varieties of roses cultivated continuously since 1917.
In 1905, the largest long cabin in the world was built in Portland to honor the Lewis and Clark expedition.
